POKOTABI / Nomidokoro (Wasuke)
呑み処(和助)
Located in Kotobashi, Sumida Ward, Nomidokoro (Wasuke) is an izakaya serving lunchtime teishoku—featuring mix-and-match deep-fried platters like chicken or sillago alongside simmered mackerel in miso—and a wide spread of small plates and drinks at night.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Opening the midday menu, the first thing that catches the eye is the customizable fried set meal. The list includes chicken, shrimp, squid, minced meat cutlet, sillago, and pork cutlet, offering the fun of selecting 2 favorites to suit your mood that day. Beyond crisp, aromatic fried fare, the kitchen also turns out reliable midday choices for hearty appetites, such as mackerel simmered in rich miso sauce that calls for extra rice, thick-cut ginger pork, and fresh bonito sashimi.
When evening service begins, Nomidokoro (Wasuke), set in a Kotobashi commercial building, takes on the easygoing ambiance of a classic neighborhood drinking spot. Sautéed dishes such as ginger-fried whale and sautéed octopus share the menu with a varied lineup of small plates, including shiokara salted fish entrails, simmered beef offal, beef tendon stew, and itawasa sliced fish cake with wasabi. Diners can pair these with beer, chilled sake, sake poured from a tokkuri carafe, or various chuhai, rounding out an evening drink with comforting ochazuke topped with pickled plum or salmon.
The dining room provides counter and table seating, alongside raised tatami seating toward the back where guests can stretch their legs. From a solo midday meal to a lively gathering with friends over reserved seating, diners can enjoy their food and drinks comfortably at their own pace.
